Our Commitment to Climate Action
At Two Ridings, we know that climate change isn’t a separate issue; it’s woven into the wellbeing of every community we serve. Strong, connected communities can only thrive in a greener, more resilient region. That’s why we’re integrating climate awareness into everything we do.
Since 2021, we’ve been learning, listening and taking practical steps to understand how climate change affects people across North and East Yorkshire. We’ve signed the Funders Commitment on Climate Change, and we’re working across the organisation, from grant making and donor engagement to investments and operations, to play our part in a fair transition to a post‑carbon future.
How we’re taking action
- Learning together
We’re creating opportunities for staff and trustees to deepen their understanding of climate issues. This includes training, sharing best practice and building a library of resources. Climate awareness is becoming part of our everyday conversations and decision‑making. - Embedding climate thinking in our funding
Many of our funds already support environmental action, and we’re working to integrate a climate lens across all our programmes. That means understanding how climate intersects with the issues our communities face, supporting groups to build resilience, and encouraging projects that contribute to a greener, healthier region. - Working with donors
We’re talking to donors about how climate connects to the causes they care about and exploring new ways to resource climate‑positive work. We want to make it easy for supporters to invest in a sustainable future for our region. - Responsible investment
We recognise that climate change is a material risk to our investments and our mission. We’re strengthening our responsible investment approach, increasing transparency and exploring opportunities for positive impact investing. - Reducing our own footprint
We’re taking steps to decarbonise our operations, from travel and office practices to procurement and digital storage. We’re reviewing how we work, making greener choices and continually improving.
We’re learning, adapting and taking action
We’re at the start of a long‑term process, and we’re honest about the fact that we don’t have all the answers yet. But we’re taking action, learning from others and have built climate awareness into our five‑year plan.
Most importantly, we’re doing this because climate action is community action. A greener region is a fairer, healthier and more hopeful one; and that’s the future we want for York and North Yorkshire, Hull and East Yorkshire.
