A Transformational Gift for Harrogate’s Future: £1 Million Commitment to THE LOCAL FUND
Two Ridings are thrilled to share some truly inspiring news—a remarkable act of generosity that will change lives in Harrogate for generations to come.
A local woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, has pledged a legacy of approximately £1 million in her will to THE LOCAL FUND for the Harrogate District. Alongside this future gift, she is also contributing £5,000 every month during her lifetime. This dual approach means that her giving will have both an immediate and long-lasting impact.
In partnership with her financial adviser, Melanie Park of Cooper Park Wealth Management, the donor has set up a new fund, as part of THE LOCAL FUND, to focus specifically on supporting charities and community groups working to improve the lives and wellbeing of children and young people in the Harrogate area.
“This is a wonderful moment for THE LOCAL FUND for the Harrogate district,” said Celia McKeon, Chief Executive of Two Ridings. “The donor’s vision—to support children and young people now and long into the future—is deeply inspiring. Her generosity means we can sustain and expand our support for vital projects improving mental health, tackling poverty, and fostering wellbeing.”
“It was incredibly important to my client that her wealth made a tangible difference in the place she calls home,” added Melanie Park. “Creating a giving plan through Two Ridings and THE LOCAL FUND aligned perfectly with her values, and it’s been a privilege to help her shape this legacy.”
Over the past seven years, THE LOCAL FUND has helped around 30 local organisations annually, tackling urgent issues like mental health, youth isolation, and hidden poverty. Just last year, the Fund supported:
- Essential Needs, supplying bedding to children living in poverty;
- The Wellness Gateway, offering mental health support to children and families;
- Rossett Local Nature Reserve, which created a new pond-dipping platform for local schools.
This new donation represents a milestone moment—a powerful investment in Harrogate’s future and a lasting legacy of community care.
“This donor’s commitment shows that giving doesn’t have to wait,” Celia concluded. “By supporting local communities now and in the future, she’s creating a legacy of hope and opportunity for generations to come.”
